When a Whole House Renovation Makes Sense

Sometimes the problem isn't one room. The kitchen is closed off from the family, the bathrooms are original, the floors don't match from one room to the next and the wiring was never meant for how you live now. Remodeling one room at a time means living through construction again and again.

A whole home remodel fixes the house you already love in one plan: one design, one set of selections, one schedule and one team. It's often the right call when you like your neighborhood and your lot but the house no longer fits your family.

Lacoste & Young are licensed home remodeling contractors who handle whole-house renovations from planning to final walkthrough. Our home remodeling services cover layout changes, kitchens, bathrooms, flooring throughout, interior finishes, and the electrical, plumbing and HVAC work that comes with them, coordinated through licensed trades.

If you already have plans from an architect, we can build from them. If you don't, we'll help you work out what the house needs, room by room, and put it in an order that makes sense.

From Closed Rooms to One Open Living Space

Before: Walls Between Every Room

Many Baton Rouge ranch homes were built with a closed kitchen, a formal dining room and a separate living room. Each room is fine on its own; together they cut the family off from each other and leave the kitchen dark.

  • Kitchen closed off from living space
  • Little natural light reaches the middle of the house
  • Dining room used twice a year

After: Kitchen, Dining and Living Together

Opening the walls between kitchen, dining and living turns three small rooms into one bright space with an island at the center. A whole house renovation puts the cook back in the conversation.

Whether a wall can come out depends on what it carries. We check structure, plumbing and wiring before we plan.

  • Island seating where the dining wall was
  • Light from both sides of the house
  • One flooring run through the whole space

How it works

Five Phases of a Whole Home Remodel

A big project goes smoothly when every phase is planned before the first wall comes down.

  1. Plan the house

We walk every room with you, list what each needs and set priorities and a budget.

  2. Design and selections

Layouts, then finishes for every room chosen in our showroom, so nothing waits on a decision.

  3. Demolition and rough-in

Walls open, then plumbing, electrical and HVAC go in by licensed trades before anything is closed up.

  4. Finishes

Drywall, cabinets, counters, tile, floors, trim and paint, room by room.

  5. Final walkthrough

We walk the whole house with you and make sure every room is right.

In their words

★★★★★

Major remodel. Down to the studs, raised ceiling, all new electrical, new HVAC, new plumbing, new hardwood floors. They completely changed the layout of our home that we had drawn up by the architect. They handled our special requests, and all of our add ons along the way. Their subs were very professional and trustworthy with access to our house. They make a great team!

Older homes

Renovating Older Baton Rouge Homes

As home renovation contractors in Baton Rouge and St. George, we open up plenty of houses that were built forty, fifty or sixty years ago. They have good bones and great lots, and they hide things you only find when walls open: old wiring, tired plumbing, ductwork in the wrong place, subfloors that have seen a few leaks.

The best time to fix what's behind the walls is during a whole home remodel, when the walls are already open. A whole-house renovation is the moment to bring electrical, plumbing and HVAC up to how you live now, before new drywall and floors go back over them.

Systems

New electrical, plumbing and HVAC are coordinated through licensed trades as part of the plan, not as surprises halfway through.

Comfort and efficiency

Open walls are also the chance to improve insulation, windows and ventilation, which matters in a Louisiana summer.

Character

Brick, wood beams and original details can stay and become the centerpiece of the new space instead of something to cover up.

During the work

Living at Home During a Whole-House Renovation

Whether you can stay in the house depends on the scope. Some whole-home remodels can be phased so part of the house stays livable while we work on the rest; others are easier and faster with the house empty for the heaviest weeks.

We'll talk through the options before work starts, so you can decide with real information. You'll always know what's happening next and who will be in your house.

  • Phasing so one part of the house stays usable
  • A clear sequence for kitchen and bathroom downtime
  • A clean job site at the end of each day

Lacoste and Young is incredible! They communicate with you daily, keep their commitments, and send workmen that do superior work (actually they consistently go above and beyond what you would expect). In so doing, they turned our 43 year old house into a beautiful new looking home. If you have a remodeling project that you want done right while working with delightful people, then my wife and I highly recommend LaCoste and Young!

We wanted our remodel to include updating both bathrooms, our kitchen, and replacing the bedroom carpet with vinyl flooring. Jacob and Jesse worked with us to choose the right options. Jacob was always happy to talk to me when I had questions. Everything they did has turned out beautifully.

We started the remodel at the beginning of the summer. As I sit here, I now have two beautiful new bathrooms as well as gorgeous bedrooms, an awesome new patio, and numerous other projects inside and out that have completely transformed my home. Jacob and John run a tight ship, are easy to work with, and the crew is spectacular as well! Already planning a kitchen remodel with them soon. Highly recommend

Yes. If you already have plans from an architect or designer, we can build from them. If you don't, we'll help you plan the work room by room.

Do you update electrical, plumbing and HVAC?

Yes. Systems work is coordinated through licensed trades as part of the plan, done while the walls are open and before new finishes go in.
